Lazy days
Well, well... it seems these holiday times are good for spending your whole day in pijamas and be absolutely slobby. I really haven't been up to too much lately. I've been burning my brain with TV, I've been eating
pan de jamón (ham bread, a typical Venezualan Xmas food) as if my life depended on it, I've watched
The Return of The King four times and I've watched
Changing Rooms maniacally as well. In fact, I'm developing a most unhealthy crush on
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who would totally design my room if I had the money to afford him. Sigh.
Now, talking about my room... I've been planning the decoration for my bedroom (aka The Dumpster). Because I practically can't fit anything in there anymore. I have too many books and cds and dvds and clothes and shoes and I need organization, pronto! I wanted something like
this, clean cut, cool and with lots of storage space, but my Victorian oak bed would not fit with that style at all. And I love my bed. I couldn't change it. So I have to switch to something more romantic. But no ruffles or flowers or pansy stuff, like pink. I'm thinking of something more nature-related like shades of green, slate or blue. It could be an elvish-spirited room, even. That way I could be officially crowned as geek. Whee!
Talking about LoTR, on my third viewing of the movie I noticed
Figwit! He even has a few lines and all, it was fantastic. The things this crazy fandom does. He's even on the collector cards, look:
Simply beautiful. Stuff like this makes me proud to be a fangirl, hehe.

Hoo!

Ewww.
Reason number one why men should not to play in the snow naked: your penis will shrink.
No, really.
December 23, 2003
No. Fucking. Way.
Holy crap, the apocalypse is coming:
ALF comes back to TV!
Run for your lives, get drunk, screw your neighbor!
Viggo Mortensen and Billy Boyd wish you all a Merry Crhristmas.
With tongue.
Yesterday was my dad's birthday, and thanks to a fuck-up by my bank, an important amount in my account was blocked due to operations I didn't make with my debit card. To make things more merry, that was my Xmas gifts and dad's gift money, you see.
However, thanks to American Express I could buy all the gifts. Whew. Of course, they ended up being more expensive than I had planned, but whatever. I escaped the Mall Madness (I swear there was like 25,000 people only on the floor I was in) and relaxed a bit on a cyber café where I showed
Chris my new red panties through webcam. Not a lost afternoon at all.
My dad had a good time -- my stepbrothers were there as well and we had a very Christmassy Cantonese dinner and a great chocolate Opera cake. Dad also got a DVD like the one I have. That made him go all "now feel free to buy all the movies you want!". Bastard. ;)

UGH. THOM!
I always get this horny after watching Queer Eye on Sundays, so forgive me while I scream to the world that when I see pictures of
Thom Filicia like
these and
these and
these, my ovaries jump in joy. They seem not to care that he's gay.
Bonus:
Queer Eye For The Hobbit Guy. ;)

The Last Samurai (No Spoilers)
Yes, I've been going to the movies lately, why you ask? ;)
Saw this last night, and it's your standard heroic movie, really. Some nice moments, but nothing that makes you go "OHMYGOD!" in fangirl fashion.
The cinematography is fantastic, as well as the score -- when merged, the screen sizzled with epic grandeur. As far as the acting goes...well. I've always thought Tom Cruise to be over the top, and though he takes it down a notch here, his most dramatic scenes make me cringe a bit, so I don't identify myself with his character so much. But he does have a few nice moments there, especially when he doesn't say anything and his emotions are portyayed through his eyes or his body language. Those are more powerful than anything. Oh, he also gets points for his lines in Japanese.
Ken Watanabe as Katsumoto, on the other hand, was simply AMAZING. Every damn scene this man was on was superb -- he gave his character the humanity needed to be loved, and the strength to be respected. His last scene is the best minute from the whole movie. I also enjoyed Billy Connolly and Timothy Spall greatly.
Of course, the battle scenes are fantastic, and the whole dark atmosphere of the movie contrasts with the last confrontation in broad daylight, where we can see the beauty and horror of a final fight. Also, samurai swords! You can't go wrong with those.
Something else: the editing was fantastic. It's a 2+ hours movie and it doesn't feel like there's anything innecessary thrown in there. Of course, I've also seen RoTK twice this week, so everything less than 3 hours long doesn't feel long at all. ;)
My main complain is that I just wish they have taught the audience a bit more about the samurai culture and that the actor portraying the Emperor hadn't come out like such a sissy. ;p

Miggie's Very Geeky and Fangirly Return of The King Review
If you haven't seen it, here be spoilers. Big, fat, juicy spoilers.
First off, I think the movie was better than sex. And I've only seen it once. But I'm lucky, considering I saw a special screening and the rest of the local mortals won't get to see it until the 25th. My second time will be on Dec. 26, and probably again that same weekend (have to take my mom, who nearly cries in anguish just by watching the trailer -- she hasn't read the books and she's dying from the anticipation. Cute.).
That said, you'll find three categories here: Yay!, Meh and Random. Pretty self-explanatory, I think. ;)
Yay!
- Watching the movie on a theater full of fellow geeks. Everybody clapped, cheered, screamed, yelped, cursed, groaned and cried at the same time. It was gorgeous. It also felt good to know that the fanboys and fangirls weren't staring at my breasts on the line -- they were actually watching the Evenstar pendant. They could also be pretending to be looking the pendant in order to oogle the bosom, but hey. ;)
- Pippin. Billy Boyd was so absolutely brilliant through the whole movie that I felt like crying in fangirl delight. Simply amazing.
- The scenne where Denethor asks Pippin to sing something to him while he pigs out and Faramir is sent away on the suicide mission to Osgiliath? That was incredibly moving in many levels. So many things that could have been said there -- but Pippin's sad song, along with the score and the images made me start with the crying quite early.
- Faramir. What an improvement over TTT!Faramir. I just fell in love with him again in the few scenes he was in. I think that his struggle in proving himself worth to his father was portrayed very eloquently. I'm quite glad he regained his humanity. He's so my boyfriend again. :)
- That walk out of Minas Tirith with the people handing the Gondor army flowers, as if they were throwing them on their tombs... sigh. More crying.
- Gollum's death was perfect. Perfect, I say.
- Every fucking scene with the Rohirrim charging the cavalry made my heart pump faster and all my hairs stand on end. Those were so raw and powerful and visceral and beautiful. It just felt like being *there,* sacrificing yourself out of love and scared shitless at the same time. Theoden's speech before they dive onto the Pellenor fields was full of pride and love and sacrifice. To death, indeed. I think I really felt the dread of looking down on a vastly superior force that you had to go into because that's what had to be done, and what it must be like to push aside the fear -- that was incredibly powerful as well.
- The beacon scene took my breath away. That scenery... I have no words.
- The heads being catapulted over the walls? Excellent touch.
- Speaking as a devoted arachnophobe, I can say with a great degree of certainty that Shelob is the stuff my nightmares are made of. I was seriously disturbed during that sequence. I wanted it to be over. That's a good thing.
- That sequence with Legolas and the Oliphaunt? That had half the theatre on its feet, applauding and cheering. It was impressive, and was well enjoyed by all, including myself. Legolas was the rox0r! :p
- "That still only counts as one!" ;)
- Another favorite is he scene where Pippin looks at Gandalf (during the dark army attack on Minas Tirith) telling him he never imagined that it would all end like that. Gandalf starts to explain to him how the end is only the beginning when you set your sails off to the Gray Havens. Beautiful doesn't even start to describe it. I was actually choked up here and everything, and I think we hand't reached the first half of the movie.
- Gandalf taking no shit from nobody and working that mofo staff. 'Nuff said. ;)
- Pippin slaying that orc in Minas Tirith was quite something. I love my hobbits, I do, surprising wizards who are trying to protect them from war.
- The look on Aragorn's face before he charges alone to the dark gates where the Mordor army awaits, knowing chances are he'll probably die fighting? Worth every penny of the ticket.
- When Sam tries to bring Frodo back after his fall while climbing Mount Doom, telling him about the shire and the spring and the flowers and Frodo replies that he's forgotten all of the good things he once loved, that was some awesome acting there.
- "I can't carry it, but I can carry you!"
- "You ." ::teary-eyed sigh::
- I don't know about you, but that kiss Aragorn gave Arwen was pretty hot.
Turn-offs:
- The Paths of The Dead weren't that impressive. I felt it lacked build-up... it was really uneventful. :(
- For some reason, I'm not entirely fond of the editing. I think this one was the less effective of the three movies, splitting between the different storylines at seemingly random times. I think many scenes lost momentum with the editing, like Theoden's death Vs. Aragorn arriving with The Dead Vs. Frodo and Shelob, The Horrendous, Scary Spider. I hate it when they go from a very emotional moment to one that makes you cheer to one just plain scary. I feel like I'm being mindfucked, in a bad way.
- The battle scenes in TTT had a greater sense of impending doom than the ones in RoTK, where everything happened so quickly! The battle of the Pellenor fields last for-fucking-ever, and it was anticlimatic that after the ghosts appeared the battle seemed to be over in a second. Meh.
- Okay, we all know it's Samwise the Brave, but when did he get all gangsta? He didn't seem fazed by Shelob or the orcs at the tower. I mean, you can be petrified and still be brave, and I didn't see fear in his eyes.
- "Go home, Sam." ::rolls eyes::
- What happened to Merry? It felt like Pippin was the teacher's pet
- Although they briefly hinted at it, I wish they would have been more direct about fleshing out the reasons for Denethor's madness (Palantir? Hello?). I have hopes for the EE.
- They also didn't show how Eowyn and Faramir found each other. Actually, they only looked happy in the coronation scene and they were standing next to each other, so we don't really know if they actually *are* together by then, according to the Jackson Gospel. EE, please.
- Then, we never saw the Houses of Healing, where we actually see when Aragorn is recognized as THE KING. I had the feeling his taking of the throne was a given, a piece of pie, and it wasn't nothing like it. Again, I hope to see that in the EE.
- Arwen. Ugh. Her death bit was extremely meh. If they wanted to include her (which I can understand) they could've found a better way to do it than that. And excuse me, Aragorn's motives to go through the Paths of the Dead were always higher than his love for Arwen -- it just looked silly to have Elrond, Master Manipulator there in the tent telling him. "Arwen's dying. Take Narsil. Fight or she dies, dude!" Now, her vision was a beautiful touch.
- The slow-motion shots of Pippin while he's holding the palantir annoyed me for some reason.
Random
- There, at the very end, I don't think anyone would have minded if Frodo kissed Sam on the lips at the Grey Havens. I have never seen so much build up to something like that in my life. And despite my liking of Hot Hobbit on Hobbit action, that kiss would have been totally chaste anyway. The love those two have for each other goes beyond anything. Also, the audience would have probably cheered.
- There were many scenes I remember from the trailer that didn't made it here, like Éomer crying with a hurt Éowyn in his arms in the battlefield
- It pisses me off that people are being so whiny about the suppossedly long end (endings? WTF?) People, I give you the word denouement. Cherish it.
- Mount Doom looked different than I always pictured it. I had always imagined it as your standard top of a volcano rather than inside the side of it...
- Why did Sam mention Rosie at exactly the most homoerotic point in the movie? Way to break the mood. ;)
- I missed the secrecy that surrounded Dernhelm.

Last night was the company's Christmas Party. It was AMAZING! I'm so happy because everybody was awed at its magnificency. Definitely all the stress and annoying meetings paid off, because I'm ah mastah pahty organizah! Go me! :)
I also had loads of fun, though -- practically danced all night long until I couldn't feel my toes anymore and had to take off my shoes to keep on dancing. Whee! ;)
Christmas is also one of the perks of working in the public relations area at the office. Why? Lots of invitations and nice gifts. I've been taken out for lunch twice last week, I got really nice Xmas cards and today I got two wonderful books, one about Venezuela's National Parks with huge, beautiful pictures that would make you shit your pants, and "Tierna Es La Noche," by one of my favorite writers, Jaime Bayly.
I also get unexpected visitors -- I met our new sales executive from Lufthansa today. My god, he's gorgeous, even if he looks like one of the guys from the Vienna Boys' Choir. However, he also has a deep, sexual stare. Really. He's like all intense, and I don't know if this is caused because I'm generally a horny person, but I swear he looks at you and it's like he's saying "fuck me." Makes me nervous.
Oh, talking about fuck me,
my boyfriend Hawksley sent me the most gorgeous Christmas message. An excerpt:
"let us hope to sing with our clear pure voices. let us be warmed by our simple peace in this winter. let us claim our truths and debunk this mystery. at last, we are a simple animal. feel the breath of your blessings. be good to yourselves and others. it's not that hard. it's not that easy. sing from your heart, little, lost lamb."

"Insatiable bloodlust"
Last night I found
Vanity Fair's December 2003 issue while browsing through
Tecni-Ciencia's magazine section. I gasped, yelped and moaned, embarrassing myself in front of the other customers. But can you blame me?
See Kyan & Robert Gant with the sexy faces. See Kyan, Carson and Gale FUCKING Harold all lounged out and all touchy-feely in white. See GALE HAROLD, for God's sake, doing the "these are my bitches" bit with Scott Lowell and Randy Harrison. See Thom doing the brow thing and looking extremely fuckable. See Hal Sparks, sweet Lord. See the hotness of the Jai. Erick McCormarck wants you to do things to him, judging by the look in his eyes, and there's also Ted (TED!) with his hand down Peter Paige's pants, and it's ALL TOO MUCH for me, because I'm practically having an erection here. I mean, they're hot enough as they are, and on top of that they make them do all these poses? PORN, I say! PORN!
Me wanna.

Stripper, Interrupted
So I come back at 2:30pm after a meeting outside the office with the boss only to find Maigua with a very stern face, telling me to sit down because she had to tell me something. I was immediately worried.
Maigua: Remember what your Secret Santa told you yesterday?
Miggie: Yeah, he was going to send me a special present today.
Maigua: Your present came 10 minutes after you left.
Miggie: Oh, no! What was it?
Maigua: A stripper.
Miggie: WHAAAAAAAAAAAT? NOOOOOOO! WHO WAS IT?
Maigua: You don't wanna know.
Miggie: Do I know him?
Maigua: Uh-huh.
Miggie: (realizes who it was*, screams, throws self on the floor on the verge of tears)
It's a given I haven't been able to form a coherent thought for the rest of the afternoon. Listening to Hawksley sing "Lust" doesn't help me, either.

The season of giving
Whee! I got my list of contacts for this year's U2 Fan Christmas Card Exchange, and the count is:
USA: 12
Brazil: 4
Canada: 2
The Netherlands: 1
Uganda: 1
Nice. :)
There's also someone with the lastname "Workman" in there. Hmmm....
Irma's wedding last Saturday was really nice. Among the unexpected things to happen there was me in the pulpit, reading a lecture from the Bible (the altar boy came to me and asked nicely. I thought I would get a naughty kick out of it. Also, I love Irma, so I said, what the hell?). At one moment there I saw Olga's eyes pop out of their sockets in utter disbelief. She said she was afraid the church would start to crumble, the baptism water turn into blood and that the apocalypse horsemen would enter on cue. I admit I felt quite evil and pleased up there. ;)
The bride, the groom, the bridesmaid (my pretty Olga!) and the best man (especially him, yum!) looked quite smashing. Our table was composed by not only the most sexy women, but also a couple of Irma's exes that made the night quite memorable, I might add, when it was time for the picture. Hehee. A while later, Bacchus called us in order to make those people at the party dance, dammit, dance, because it seemed they all had a stick up their bums. All in all, the reception was okay, with a bunch of old friends from college and the media (it was packed with journalists! Sometimes I forget I'm one). Unforgettable moments when the Bride threw the bouquet and a senior bachelorette caught it and then a very brave guy caught the garter, only to put it on this lady's thigh with his teeth. It was like a train wreck: horrible, but you couldn't take your eyes off it. ;)
The party ended up too early (1am? WTF?), so the entourage decided to move it to El Maní Es Así, a legendary place devoted to Salsa music. Much dancing was done until 4am, when our feet claimed they had had way too much balance over stiletto heels and they wanted out. Yesterday was a day of sleep and pistachio. movies and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy introduction to my mother, who, judging by her reaction, has become a fag-hag. ;)

...from the LoTR cast in New Zealand:
Hmm.
December 1, 2003
Wherein I gasp, dance, sigh, daydream, fall, lust and love...
...or randomly recap happenings from the last few days.
- Saw
Hedwig and The Angry Inch last night. This movie shook the bases of my existence in so many levels I'm still speechless. It was
Velvet Goldmine all over again.
- Irma's bachelorette party on Saturday? It kicked ass! I got home at 6am after an all-salsa dance night. At the end, turns out we didn't need strippers to have fun -- all we needed was a little booze, some guys to dance with and a healthy dose of Latin music. We started the night on this bar called Latino's, where the music's good, but the men are lacking. And even though around 1am things stared to get better, I was feeling sleepy and we had already decided to move our sexy selves someplace else.
Olga suggested a place near the city's downtown called Rumba Ché or something to that effect, and wow. We really danced the night away there. There's something really beautiful about a place that people go to just to dance. It doesn't matter if you're ugly, fat or if you have buck teeth: if you can dance salsa, you are immediately swept by the music. I danced with about 5 or 6 different people there, from the cute young guy to the sweet old man. They were all charming and chivalrous, and a pleasure to dance with. I really hope to go there soon and get more in touch with my undeniable roots. I say undeniable because you can't help feel Latin when the music starts and the rhythm starts to pump inside your veins. I got home at 6am the next day and not even tired. What a fantastic night.
- I found out I really like R.E.M. Or at least the songs that are on their "best of" compilation. Same thing with the Smashing Pumpkins. I kinda liked them before, but now it's something more strong and deep and liric and fangirly cute. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness it's such a beautiful record. I've also been listening some old NIN stuff, and it's amazing how much Trent Reznor is my platonic boyfriend. He's so gorgeous and tormented and dark and brooding. I'm such a goth.
- One of my friends got unexpectedly married and told us so on a lunch we had on Saturday. I almost fell flat on my ass. Is it me, or is everybody getting married these? Did I miss the bandwagon? I feel like a freak for not having a relationship.
- Dear Santa, I want the
Fab 5 for Xmas. Yes, I know it's pathetic to lust after five gay men, but they're my porn puppies, and deep down I'm a gay man anyway. Please, Santa, let me have that so I can drool over them in my office.

Today, December 1, is designated as World AIDS Day. This year's official events will focus on the stigma and discrimination faced by many of those with HIV/AIDS. In addition, the World Health Organization is marking the day by launching "3 by 5," its commitment to get antiviral drugs to 3 million HIV-positive people in underdeveloped nations by the end of 2005.
A few statistics: In 2002, 42 million people worldwide were living with HIV/AIDS. Of those, 3.2 million are children, and 29.4 million are in Sub-Saharan Africa. There were 3.1 million deaths due to HIV/AIDS, and in most areas of the world -- including both Africa and the United States -- heterosexual sex is the main mechanism for the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
What can you do today? Find out more about HIV. Make a donation to your local HIV/AIDS organization. Find out about events in your local area and participate.
Spread the word. Stop the ignorance.
