A small glimpse of happiness

Sigh. What a wonderful lunch I had today! I went with a friend to grab a bite because we were both in the mood for sushi, so into Yamato we went, and dear gods, what a fucking great meal we had. We were all "yummmm" and "ooooohhh" and "hmmmm." The guy making the sushi in front of us was pleased. There was also a nice bossanova playing in the background, so yes, it was perfect. ;)

After that, we decided we needed a piéce de resistance, so I decided it would be good to top the sushi off with a molten lava cake at Chili's. There was a saxophonist playing beside us and wow, what a wonderful way to eat a chocolate cake, let me tell you. Of course we were happy and groggy and thinking very seriously about playing hooky at the office the rest of the afternoon, but deep down we're good workers and here we are again.

On the not so bright side, I'm all arthritis-achy again, and I don't like it a bit. Of course, I shouldn't have eaten chocolate cake, but damn, I needed some happy, chocolatey stuff. Let's see what the doctor tells me tomorrow, but I know this is all work-related. I've been so stressed out that my body it's telling me to chill out a bit.

i hope I get some rest on Sunday, considering tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment, a date with my mom to buy sushi supplies (see the family pattern?), then go out to lunch with Maru, Marge, Glauco and Nella. After that, I must hook up with Olga to buy Irma's bachelorette party present and then go back home and shower, get dressed and pretty again in order to have an all-nighter in said bachelorette party. It's obvious I won't get home until Sunday morning.

Wish me luck.

Here's today's capitalist questions:

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?

It depends what I'm buying. I'f I'm out to get presents and stuff and I have a whole relaxing day to myself to do this, I will go to the malls and various streets and boulevards in my best spirits and get nice stuff because I'm patient. The walking around is a good exercise, and I generally don't mind, because it's not stuff for me. If I'm getting stuff for ME, then I'll generally make a tour first until I find whatever I want. Then, other day I'll just go going to the store and actually do the shopping per se. I want to get in and out ASAP. Walking around for hours trying to find something I classify as a dud (unless we're talking about records, of course!). Why? Because is more tiring and you're wasting precious time that you could be using for something else.

Yeah, I'm weird.

2. What was the last thing you purchased?

A bunch of cds to send to a friend. :)

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?

Shopping online is like air for me, since online I can find things I wouldn't find on an actual store in Caracas. And believe me, with the exchange controls round here and not being able to use my credit cards for online shopping, this last year has been sad. On the good side, I've had more money. ;)

Of course shopping at the store diderctly is better in terms of sensation: you see, touch, smell, taste or listen to whatever you want to buy right there and then. Also, instant gratification = yay.

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?

Never as a child... only when I got in high school my dad would give me something every two weeks to cover my expenses. When I was a kid, I used what was left of my brealkfast money to buy myself an ice cream after going out of school.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?

I very rarely acquire things I regret, so I don't remember when was the lasttime something like this happened.

Fucking hell

This week has definitely been one of the lousiest in history, especially at work, where I've been dead busy and stressed and wanting to kill people. On top of that, it's time for my quarterly depressive mood. Just imagine the joy that is being me right now.

Anyway, today is Thanksgiving, and even though we don't celebrate that holiday around here (total shocker, considering how much everybody loves to gulp ridiculous amounts of food in these latitudes), I do think there are things to be thankful for, turkey or not.

Let's see. I don't hate my family, for example. They can be a pain in the ass but I couldn't live without them. I'm also blessed with the most amazing friends ever. No matter where they are, they always manage to make me feel good and loved. And they put up with me! I cannot possibly ask for more -- so thank you guys. I love you more than I'll ever say it. :)

I also am in better shape and health than I expected to have, considering the fact a few months ago a sudden case of arthritis had me practically immobilized for a couple weeks. And though I can't get boozed up, I can wear fuck-me shoes again. Hallelujah!

I should be thankful for the r0x0r that is ilX as well since procrastination at work has never been better than after I started to hang in there.

Well, it seems not everything's that bad after all. Now, I'll wander off to think of new ways to avoid the thought of throttling my boss.

Another poll

Rolling Stone made again one of those moronic "This is really the definitive, the last evah compilation of the Top 500 Records" lists where they put the same records ad infinitum. And what the fuck is with all the compilations and "greatest hits" put in there? That's cheating.

Also, there was only ONE Depeche Mode record in there ("Violator.") Injustice doesn't even start to describe it. Sigh. Also, I only own 64 of those in the list. Yawn.

Thankfully the visit to Rolling Stone wasn't a complete loss: this great Iggy Pop interview was worth it. God, I love that fucked-up, badass, kinky bastard. ;)

It seems Sammy Hagar will reunite with Van Halen again.

Eddie: "Sammy! Welcome back, man. You know I was just kidding when I told everyone you were a complete asshole, right?"

Sammy: "Of course, Eddie! And remember about that time when I said to some reporter you should go fuck yourself? That was taken out of context."

Apocalypse is clearly upon us.

Considering he has given me the gift of unexpected happiness by being the most adorable man ever, I hereby declare this week as the Official Christopher Evans Appreciation Week.

Therefore, I encourage you all to adore him, love him, send him gifts and naughty pictures, throw red rose petals on his wake, make human sacrifices on his name, etc.

One of the most absurd, corny and hated corporate traditions around Christmas is, no doubt, the Secret Santa game. Here we call it "Secret Friend." Whatever. No matter how much hope you put into it, it seems you end up receiving the poster of the poker-playing dogs as a present at the end. I swore off this thing about two years ago, and since then I've had my kicks laughing at the misery of others.

However, I was invited again this year. After thinking long and hard, I ended up saying yes only because the list of participants is composed by the funniest people in the company, with the exception of a single bitch, but I won't complain. This year's system is better, because we're 22 people: 11 men and 11 women. The women give presents to the men, and viceversa, which is cool since you don't have to send the usual gifts to the girls. This year, I'm striving for evil excellence!

And I haven't been disappointed, either. My secret santa sends me naughty e-mails and e-cards everyday, and yesterday I got a plastic cup with a note that said: "I'll tell you later what to fill it with." ;)

On top of everything, our beloved webmaster put up a restricted forum for us on the intranet. You can't possibly imagine the mayhem. ;)

It's good to have fun within the corporate environment every once in a while, huh?

I've found love!

I am happy to announce to the world that Hawksley Workman is my new boyfriend. He's a witty, strange and sexy bitch. He also seems to be permanently on crack, judging by the insane non-sequitur babblings he mutters before a live rendition of "Naked Body On The Beach," but I don't mind. I like my men on the far edges of the Gauss bell. In laymen's terms: he's fucking crazy, but I love him anyway.

Of course, this perfect blend of souls would have never happened if Chris and Maru hadn't introduced me to the man. Your efforts won't go unnoticed, my lovelies.

Now, if you'll excuse me, Hawksley needs me. He insists on making out.

Life is good.

Something wicked this way comes

I can't believe I forgot to mention this today, but the Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban trailer is online. Wheee!

It looks fantastic. The kids have grown (see Neville!!), Lupin doesn't look as bad as I thought, Snape looks sexy even in Grandma Longbottom's clothes, Dumbledore sounds fantastic, and the Macbeth-esque choir was a great addition. That said, Gary Oldman looks so dead on on the "Have You Seen This Wizard" pic that it's scary.

I also wanna have Alonso Cuarón's babies. ;)

Like, really?

Vía Rob Breszny:

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Can you find a sensitive saint who'll cater to your desires for a whole day? Someone who is knowledgeable about what gives you pleasure, who would listen with supple curiosity to your stories, who would sing you songs and read you poems and describe to you in lyrical detail all your wonderful qualities? In other words, Cancerian, can you enlist the devotion of a love genius who would regard being of service to you as a holy privilege? The planets have rarely been better aligned for such a possibility. The entire universe is yearning to be more demonstrative in showing its love for you.

Major WTF

I still have a headache after watching that damn Matrix movie last night. I literally walked out of the theater with a big, shiny question mark over my head, preceded by these big, shiny letters: WTF.

Do you have answers? Have a better grasp of the mythology than me? Then, by all means, tell me. I will be eternally grateful for any enlightment.

I'll be waiting on AIM.

First, how fucking great is Queer Eye For The Straight Guy? I know, I know, I'm jumping on the bandwagon about six months too late, but I just got to see the premiere yesterday. These men are SO damn cute, I almost feel sorry they're gay. I was squealing through the whole thing, it was so adorable. A must-see for this season.

Other than that, today has been another PMS-y day for my boss, which is not new. But I'm feeling a bit sick today and I odn't know how much of him I'll be able to handle. We'll see. In the meantime, I scared small children and pets on my first AIM chat with the ilxers. All is good. :P

Also, today: Matrix Revolutions at 7. I'll let you know if it sucks. ;)

Unlikely

This afternoon after I went out to run an errand, I came across one of my neighbors, an old Portuguese woman I've always met on the elevator. She's one of the few people I talk to in the building, and I was saddened to see she has become very sick. She can barely walk because of endless problems with her column and legs, and despite the fect she's been on therapy over amonth, things are not improving for her. She looked sad and hopeless, and that broke my heart. I simply could not find more comforting words to tell her except to be a bit patient and not to lose hope.

Before she said goodbye and went to her apartment on the 8th floor, she told me: "I always remember the chubby little girl you were back then, and it makes me happy to see you've become such a beautiful young woman." I think I stuttered a very awkward thank you after the elevator doors closed, and the rest of my afternoon was spent thinking how all my life I've felt invisible and how one, day, out of the blue, the least likely person ever lets you know they've been watching you all your life.

Soups and salads.

2. What food do you hate that most people love?

J.Lo. She must die.

4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?

John Malkovich. Yum.

5. What popular trend baffles you?

Today's new "punks," who have no idea who Sid Vicious is, have never heard a Clash record in their lives, and who are sissies who buy their clothes at department stores and Hot Topic. I blame all this shit on that twat Avril Lavigne, who must die as well.

Shockah!

Yesterday afternoon I filed a complaint to the support department about the file uploading utility because it seems files larger than 1,5mb can't be uploaded via blogger.com, and they have already answered (!!!!).

They told me they filed a bug for their engineers and "hopefully they'll fix it soon."

Fuck that, somebody replied to me in less than 24 hours. I am baffled, amazed and astounded.

I decided I needed to collaborate with the sharing of kickass music througout the web and piss off the RIAA at the same time, so I put up an new section on the sidebar called "soundbites," where you'll find a monthly selection of three random tunes for your aural pleasure.

As you'll see, those are not only zipped, but hosted in geocities until I can find a way to upload larger files through blogger without it messing up. Download and be merry! I hope you like it. :)

And talking about music, it seems the new Jay-Z album got leaked, and while I'm not usually a fan of this sort of thing, I can assure you that what I've heard so far it's amazing.

Now, what is this "work" stuff I'm hearing about? Hmm...

Wiggle your big toe

I saw Kill Bill yesterday afternoon, and while I wasn't going in with that many expectations, I'm happy to say the movie kicked my ass. It was THAT good. It's rare to see really solid female performances in an action movie, and with this one you get a treat: Uma Thurman, Vivica Fox, Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah are superb. I especially liked Chiaki Kuriyama (who plays Go Go Yubari), because she was so absolutely dead on it was scary.

The action sequences were amazing, gory and full of witty repartee, and the use of anime as a tool for background storytelling was fantastic. I might be biased because I love Tarantino, but he didn't disappoint me. I'm really looking forward to the second part with my campy hat on.

However, it wouldn't have been the same movie without the soundtrack, with wich I'm developing a very unhealthy obsession with. It has the right combination of ethereal japanese music and cowboy bravado. It's just... perfect for the movie, and you get to relive the best moments while listening to it.

All in all, a great movie. If I just hadn't seen LXG after that, my night would've been complete.
