Friday Five | 01.31.03 | Looking Back

1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why?

Remember the Superfriends and the Hall of Justice? Well, I loved the Wonder Twins. They could turn into anything at will. Well, Jayna could turn into any animal, and Zan into any form of water. Which, to be honest, is quite limiting, but at that time I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?

I honestly don't remember. Thankfully my mom got me as much as she could afford, and I remember having the hip toys of the time. I even got a dog when I wanted it, so. Miggie loves Mom. :)

3. What's the furthest from home you've been?

Uh... Mexico, I think.

4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet?

Play guitar.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?

Well, I plan to abuse my DVD. I have a friend coming over tomorrow to see The Two Towers. I also have on queue Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Die Another Day, Amélie and Minority Report.

I'm having some Sims trouble.

See, not only Aragorn and Legolas refuse to fall in love despite the fact they constantly dream about each other, but now Aragorn, keeping his grimy standards, refuses to use the toilet *and* the shower -- his higyene line is completely in red. I remodeled the bathroom, changed the tiles, the wallpaper, I put a tub, windows, nothing, He won't use it. Yet he's quite angsty about it: he keeps moaning and complaining to he feels dirty and needs a shower.

Therefore, I'm getting really angsty, too, because we all know Legolas won't let him in bed with him if he's not spakly and clean.

Am v. worried. :'-(

The definition of cute: my 82-year-old grandmother watching Harry Potter with me today.

I gave her the books in December, and she finished the fourth this afternoon. So as a little treat, I brought her to my room so we both could giggle and say "whee!" like the fangirls we are while watching the movie. It was so great! She got really excited towards the end, esepcially with Ron playing chess.

She's also wise and knows Hermione is meant to be Mrs. Weasley sometime in the future. :oP

Friday Five | 01.24.03 | 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

1. What is one thing you don't like about your body?

It's not as thin as I wish it was, and to be honest, it will never live up to my beauty standards. But I'll survive.

2. What are two things you love about your body?

1.- I have great skin and
2.- I'm all shapely and voluptuous despite the answer to the first question. ;)

3. What are three things you want to change about your home?

1.- I need a bigger room, or either a studio where to put my computer and all my cd's and books and tapes and dvds.
2.- Then, I must get a huge bed.
3.- And a bedroom makeover.

4. What are four books you want to read this year?

1.- Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix by JK Rowling
2.- Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk
3.- La Mujer de Mi Hermano by Jaime Bayly
4.- All the mythology books (Nordic, Indian, Greek, Celtic, Roman, you name it) I bought on November.

5. What are five promises you have kept to yourself?

1.- I will not worry for things that haven't happened yet.
2.- I will not take people for granted.
3.- I will only trust those who have earned it.
4.- I will live one day at a time.
5.- I will not take shit from anyone.

I hate The Sims. I really do.

I must have spent 6 hours playing yesterday, which means I'm an obsessive-compulsive loser geek girl.

But I. Can't. Turn it. Off.

::pulls hair::

Besides, leaving Legolas and Aragorn alone by themselves is not an option. And I must give them cool neighbors, like Elrond and Boromir. And Gandalf! Legolas has been down lately. Pointy hat trick much needed. ;)

1.- Joan Tena became Operación Triunfo's sixth finalist last night. Wheeee! Am extremely pleased all my phone calls to Spain were worthy. ;)

2.- :: multiple orgasms ::

3.- My boss hinted I *may* go to Boston in September for a course. Hear that, Lee? Boston! Of course, being realistic, I could get fired next month since things are not that well around here, but the man meant business. Especially because the company will only have to pay for my ticket. Did I say wheee?

4.- The Man is gone and it's kinda sucky to say this, but in a way I'm glad he is. Because I'm in love with the guy I met in college, and the guy I was with the past few weeks is not the same person. I guess he could tell you the same thing about me. There's such an abyss there, that there's no way we can work our shit out. But as they say, the feeling will always sting, and I guess it's time for me to finally move on and turn the page. It's been 5 years. Enough is enough.

5.- I'm still wondering what was Lara Flynn Boyle thinking when she wore that hideous anorexic ballerina... thing to the Golden Globes.

Okay, I couldn't resist anymore.

I just saw The Two Towers from a DVD-quality pirated copy.

Holy Fucking God.

Do I have to wait ANOTHER year for the other movie? ::sobs::

What I LOVED:

- Gollum. Was THAT CGI? Excuse me, but Gollum was very much alive. I adore what they did to the character and the dichotomy of feelings that surrounds him. From now on I'm Andy Serkis' bitch. Give the man an award, please.

- The chemistry between Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli was SUPERB.

- So was the Sam/Frodo chemistry.

- Sam's speech near the end made me cry. But then I think that was the idea.

- Gimli: "Toss me!" Aww. :)

- Did you see Peter Jackson's cameo in Helms Deep? Hee!

- The lights at the end of the Helms Deep battle scene, when Gandalf arrives with the rest of the rohirrim, wow. Just gorgeous.

- The score was as beautiful as usual.

- The Aragorn Opens The Doors scene was thoroughly enjoyed.

- And was that meeting between Aragorn and Legolas after Aragorn comes back slashy or what? Yum. ;)

- Brego and Shadowfax. ::sighs::

- I wanna be Éowyn when I grow up.

What I thought was good, but could have ben better:

- Treebeard, and therefore Merry and Pippin. Their scenes were so slowly paced... maybe that was the idea, since on the other hand we had a war. I still need to see it again to get the knack of it.

- Arwen's scenes. It felt like it was put there on purpose, yet it didn't gave me anything to mull over, except for the Aragorn death scene, which was just gorgeous.

- Grima Wormtongue. He should have been on screen so much more.

- Isengard's destruction. Looked nice, but not overwhelming.

- Galadriel's scenes were practically recycled from the first movie. What was up with that?

- The ringwraiths weren't so scary this time. Hm. :-/

What I disliked:

- WHAT did they do to Faramir? Who the fuck was that? I saw no soul and no heart of Tolkien's Faramir. I just saw a Boromir clone at his worst moment. Which makes the whole "Making Denethor proud" storyline really stupid now, doesn't it?

- Gandalf. I know he's a white wizard, all cool and collected. A big, determined strategist, but he's like a cyborg now. Where is th Gandalf we all know and love? ::pout::

- Haldir's death. There was NO need to make me cry like that. :'(

1.- I've been thinking all day long if it's best to love with all your being for a few weeks and end up heartbroken, or to love holding back and prevent another heartbreak. Feedback appreciated.

2.- Harry Potter 5 has been preordered. Go me!

3.- I really, really, really like Kelly Osbourne's album. I might even buy it.

4.- Tell me if there's someone more beautiful than Viggo. Honestly. See the close-up and tell me.

5.- A friend told me about Sean Bean's Macbeth in London: "He strolled out in a long sleeveless leather coat, black t-shirt and boots and a sword and looked quite nice." ::dies::

6.- I'm so happy that Lee and Lauren are back. :)

7.- Today, I made Flash Bandits win the Best Newcomer award at the Glitz. I took them to the top and made them famous and happy. I'm a kickass manager. ;o)

8.- I am developing an insane crush on The Hives' Pelle Almqvist. Who, by the way, is so not my type.

9.- My diva-in-training dog, Moby, found a new warm spot to rest her head in today -- my breasts. I swear she would't move.

10.- Tomorrow I'm going out and look for a pirate copy of The Two Towers. Can't stand it no more.

Friday Five | 01.17.03 | Dream Job

1. Where do you currently work?

I work for a Swiss/Swedish engineering and technology company.

2. How many other jobs have you had and where?

I've had three previous jobs. I was a promo girl for Braun three decembers when I was in HS. Made my Xmas gifts much better. Then I worked in a radio station for six months as a co-producer and on-air coordinator of a daily interview show there. I left because the pay was practically ad honorem. Then, I worked for a year in the press archive of a local TV station. After that, I became an intern for the company I work for, and the rest is history.

3. What do you like best about your job?

They give me money twice a month. I have a laptop and high-speed internet connection.

4. What do you like least about your job?

They don't give me as much money as I know they could.

5. What is your dream job?

Rock star.

Confident at work but self-conscious outside your job, you've always tried to connect with others while wondering why they can't connect with you. While you can lay a smackdown with the best of them, you also possess an empathetic streak that is both a strength and a weakness in your line of work. Despite your nonchalance regarding your own appearance, your brain and inner beauty seems to attract the opposite sex in droves. You tend to be goal oriented and focused on details--both of which seems to manifest in both your personal and professional lives. Quick with a comeback, your sense of humor is both an asset and a weapon. You are Sara Sidle.

Your color is RED.

Red personalities are dynamic and direct but also generous. They are strong in character and love to be active and competitive. You are solid in knowing what you want and usually win. You have strength, courage, and conviction of your rights, as well as wanting equal justice for all.

::shrieks wildly around office, hugging coworkers::

Fifth Harry Potter Book Due on June 21.

LONDON (Reuters) - "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," the fifth book of adventures of the boy wizard by author J.K. Rowling, is due to be published on June 21, its British publisher said Wednesday.

[snip]

The first few sentences of the book are: "The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive ... The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four."

[snip]

Bloomsbury said Rowling also writes: "Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses. "It is time," he said, "for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry.

"Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything."

So, the IT department can track back all the websites you've visited during the day, no matter if you delete your history folder and your cookies and your temporary internet files, right? Well, I hope they didn't choose today as the random "let's check her" day, because they're in for lots of JC Chasez pics, lots of nsync slash and ridiculous amounts of Aragorn/Boromir collages. I also downloaded Queer as Folk and Velvet Goldmine pretty boys fic. I'm such a gay man. But hey, it's slash. Slash is good.

I also went through the boards at ilxor.com, because my man Ned, His Royal Coolness, invited me to join him and his minions. I must say the place rocks.

Why so much procrastination at work? Well, The Man and I had a psesudo-get-together (date is so passé), but car problems keeped him pised off at the mechanic's and keeped me pissed off at work. So I ended up going home, kinda frustrated. But about 15 minutes later he came and picked me up anyway, "because we were going out, weren't we? So we go out. And walk." Turns out he had to left some stuff here he didn't wanted to leave in the car, and thus came an impromptu "meet the family" moment. Good Lord. My mom was all over him like a cheap suit. I swear she had little hearts in her eyes. I wanted to tell her "yes mom, I'm fucking him." and high-five her or something.

Get-together was good. Played pool on some downtown cheap joint for two hours and showed the world how bad I suck at it. Although I did make a couple nice shots at the end, the best thing was actually getting out of there and make out under the rain. That was good and sexy. I wanted to squeal, but then I would have broken the mood. Nonetheless, highly recommended. ; )

Well, what do you know? I am having a nice beginning of 2003, despite the fact things in my country are deep in duck shit. Am v. surprised.

The Man and I -- friends? For real? Ha!

We can't be "friends". We're like Michael Douglas and Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, sans psychosis and dead bunnies. The more we tried (notice the past tense) to refrain, the more we wanted each other. After four hours, it became impossible. Too much tension on the air. Mulder and Scully had nothing on us.

I think the word "friends" flew out of the window after today.

Friday Five | 01.10.03 | Right Now

1. Where are you right now?

At home, sitting in front of the family computer.

2. What time is it?

It's 10:12 pm.

3. What are you wearing?

I'm wearing a black tee and my favorite pajama pants. Whee!

4. Any people or animals around you? Describe them.

No people. The only animal near me I can see is my beloved poodle Pikachu, who's laying down beside the sofa, looking like an adorable stuffed puppy.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?

Well, I didn't plan on doing anything big, but after the couple days I've had (re: The Man), I'm really looking forward to it. My main plan is misbehaving, of course, but tomorrow I'm gonna have a girly day with mom. I'm making her some highlights on her hair, and we'll watch Spider-Man and LoTR. :)

Update on The Man:

For a moment there, I tought the date wouldn't take place. I waited for two hours in my office, alone, and kept whining to Kate because I was hungry and really pissed off. I called a cab and was ready to go home when Security calls and tells me I have a visitor waiting for me at the door.

I was still mad, but then I got nervous. It took me a good 5 minutes to get my shit together and get out. My last thought before going out was that if a minute later I forgot I was on the verge of killing someone, then that must be it: I'll never, ever get over this man.

My bad mood dissappeared as soon as I saw him. But oh, God. He was just so --- damn him. He just arrived and smiled and gave me a big, happy hug, looked into my eyes and I swear I even forgot my own name. Since he was there to pick me up, I went back to my office dancing like Julie Andrews in "The sound of Music." It was so lame.

Since he ended up showing so late, we ended up just going home -- but I was still hungry, so we went for a late lunch/early dinner. He was everything I remembered. Hands, lips, voice, softness, intensity. Which makes really, really hard to keep my self-restraint. I just wanted to kiss him right there and then. But then, I can't do that. Since we're now just friends, right?

Right?

You know, I always said that Tobey Maguire was the worst casting choice for Spider-Man. I mean, come on. He's kinda cute, kinda nerdy, but I'd never gotten around to really like him. I liked him a lot on "The Cider House Rules" and he was fantastic on "Wonder Boys". In fact, I got smitten for a while in my usual geeky way of getting, well, smitten. And yet, I still thought: Spider-Man? Give me a break. He'll never pull it off.

But last night, I finally saw Spider-Man on DVD (I never got around to see it on film, so sue me) and OH MY GOD.

I feel like a horny teenie for saying this, but there's no way around it: I am SO Toby Maguire's bitch.

Traditions must be kept. That's why I re-join the Friday Five cult. :)

Friday Five| 01.03.03 | Body Art

1. Do you wear any jewelry? What kind?

My ever faithful and tiny dot-shaped silver earrings and my badass chick silver rings. Oh, and a watch.

2. How often do you wear it?

Everyday. Can't live without the watch, can't be around without the rings. The earrings never come off.

3. Do you have any piercings? If so, where?

Six. Three on each ear. I want one on my belly button, but they tell me it takes too long to heal, and I'm lazy.

4. Do you have any tattoos? If so, where?

Yes, I have an elf fairy on the small of my back with some words in Quenya thrown in there. I'm planning on another, but where? That is the question. The jury's still out on that one.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?

Nothing big. I'll probably become a couch potato and watch the Sex & The City season premiere and my Fellowship of The Ring DVD for the umpteenth time. The extras, people, the extras. ;)

Happy New Year, everyone! I can't believe it's 2003 already. :)

I know it's been a long time since I last posted, but there's been a lot going on in real life, so I had to step away for a while. I really couldn't find the time to relax, sit down and post again.

So what's been going on in the last two months? I'll give you the reader's digest version.

First, I made a friend reassessment. Unfortunately, I found out I couldn't trust a group of people as much as I thought because these people weren't sincere with me. I got really, really sad/mad/down about this, and to this day, these people don't know I found out their betrayal. So they're still there, pretending to be someting they're not, and I haven't had the heart to tell them to fuck off. I just keep my distance and realize who are really my friends.

But not all things were bad on the friendly front. I found the most amazing, wonderful, heartfelt friend I could ask for. I never hoped things would turn out this way, but I can sincerely say this woman can have my heart whenever she wants. It's the greatest feeling ever.

I also tried the dating thing again with no positive results. We went out many times, but we didn't click at many levels. We remained "friends", but swore never to date again. ;) Any geeky, cute guys available? :p

Oh, and I'm in the middle of a political turmoil since Dec. 2. Why? Because the opposition called for a general strike on the country since that date, and everything is closed everywhere. The situation got really ugly with the oil supply to the OPEC and to the gas stations, but it seems it's getting better as of today. Solution? None at sight, unfortunately. The really awful thing is like, no matter if the goverrnment or the opposition get away with theirs -- the economy has been so terribly wounded that it will take decades to recover everything that's been lost. Fucking yay.

On the superficial front, of course that theaters are closed -- that means no movies. That means that I've been waiting over a year to see The Two Towers, and because of all this shit, because opening day arrived on Christmas, and yup, no cinemas opened. So apart from the fact that I live in a third world country, I'm also not allowed to get near any entertainment. I am NOT happy.

Fortunately enough, I have cable TV and own a DVD. Technology keeps me detached from everything and mentally sane.

I also managed to get two lovely, one-of-a-kind acquisitions: a hand painted Legolas baseball tee, and an R2D2 tote bag. Simply adorable.

I also saw Harry Potter before all the debacle started. Small, late review coming up on a later post.

As you see now, Jamie Oliver's gone, and since I never got around to dominate the CSS file I had been working on, I went to Blog Designs for help, and I found this lovely layout made by Brandi, God bless her skilled heart. ;)

So I welcome myself back, and I look forward to see you again around here. :)
